40+ and the Dating Scene
Dating DO’s and DON’TS
Do this:
- Talk about current events that are fun to talk about. (a
local happening)
- No death and destruction
- Talk about cultural experiences: Plays, Movies, an art
exhibit
- Or any exhibit, a recent TV show, a book you recently
read
- Things you like to do
- Hobbies and Interests
- Always keep humor in whatever it is
- Take an interest in the OTHER person and ask questions.
(It is NOT all About you)
DON’T Do This:
- Don’t talk about previous bad date experiences.
- The reasons or excuses as to why you are using a
Matchmaker.
- Don’t talk about the matchmaker (if you are talking about HER, you are probably having or are going to have a really BAD date)
- PAST LOVES….(husbands, wives, girl/boyfriends)
- Negative and upsetting current events
- MONEY (earnings, holdings, divorce settlements,
possessions, etc)
- YOUR politics
If you are freshly divorced OR widowed and want to start
dating, check out the following:
Your ATTITUDE!
Attitude is EVERYTHING! If you don’t have the Right attitude, nothing
else matters.
Evaluate your assets and liabilities. What you
have to offer a new person, what you cannot offer him/her! This includes your
lifestyle, your career, your children, your physical being and finances. Ask yourself “what do I bring to the table?”
Your APPEARANCE: Are you in shape or overweight?
Do you look the absolute BEST that you can? Do you need a NEW WARDROBE? Do you need a new LOOK? Hair, clothes, (by the way, this is for MEN
too!!) Is your car in presentable condition? Is your home OK to have company
visit?
CONSIDER YOUR COMPETITION!!!
(and work in a positive way with it!)
If you have NEVER MARRIED...
- Consider all of the above...and ask yourself, WHY haven’t
you gotten married?
- Stop doing what you have always done, or you will get
what you have always gotten.
- Use PROFESSIONAL SERVICES: A therapist, a dating coach, a
matchmaker. AND LISTEN TO THEM! That is why you paid them!
Changes in the WORLD OF SINGLES
- There are more single people over the age of 40 than ever
before in history.
- Morals are more RELAXED (but not gone) than 30 years ago.
- Personal ads, online dating, speed dating, matchmakers,
are all accepted ways of meeting people today (not so in the past).
- Human nature HAS NOT CHANGED; People still want the same
things they have wanted throughout history
GOOD PLACES TO MEET OTHER SINGLE PEOPLE
- Business
- Friends
- Clubs and organizations (civic, hobbies, sports, special
interest groups)
- Doing Sports
- Fund raisers and fund raising organizations are EXCELLENT!
And
a MATCHMAKER!
